Seniors and Freshmen Have a Blast!

A senior viewpoint by Malia and Evalani
Seniors arrived at school wearing our strong class colors: black, purple, and white. Freshmen wore red and black proudly as well. The day started off with the Seniors surprising the freshmen with candies and treats. At 8th period, the two classes converged in the patio and enjoyed a pizza lunch while getting to know their peers. The seniors, having so many more people in their class, doubled and tripled up so that each freshmen could be partnered with. Moving to the gym, the seniors had surprises in store. Games were suggested, and ideas were a bit different. Dodgeball was almost cancelled due to there being no nurse on campus, but we promised to go "easy on them", and so the game went. Sure enough, soon, almost everyone was having fun and launching styrophoam so quickly that the dodging was almost as fun as getting hit. Later, after that excitement, we all moved to the field and had three, four, and even five legged races! My team had five legs, and we came up with a battle plan that almost swept the competition. (almost)! As soon as our legs were untied, we had a battle royale to Capture The Flag!! For most of us, this was our first time playing this game, and rules were cloudy, but we just ran and had fun anyway! The day closed with a sweet treat of cold ice-cream that perfectly ended an exciting day. All in all, our seniors became more aware of the younger students, and were able to connect in a way that we will remember for years to come.

A freshman viewpoint by Jayla and Jayci
Rope. Dodge ball. Blindfolds. Capture the flag. All these are an unusual
combination, but this is what senior/freshman day brings to mind. The “day”
began at lunchtime, with a special meal of pizza and soda. The real excitement
began when we were almost literally shoved out the door and blindfolded by our
senior partners as we made our way to the gym. Leaving our seniors to be our
eyes, we navigated our way up flights of stairs, through the field, and into the
gym where rows of foam balls awaited. The teams were chosen after some time,
then the games began. A few devotees spent the next half hour or so flinging
foam balls at one another across the half court line, while others stood back and
mingled in small groups. We were then lead out to the field, where a four-legged
race commenced. Enter: rope burns. Each group struggled for victory, and one
die-hard team demanded a rematch. A chorus of groans met this suggestion,
which was eventually carried out. Teams were chosen once more for capture-the-
flag as we untied the ropes, remnants of our previous game. Capture the flag
lasted for less than 10 minutes, and many were unenthusiastic, but all in all, the
day was successful.
