Ho'olaule'a 2011

For those of you who don't know what Ho'olaule'a means, it's the Hawaiian word for mayday. It's a hula and royal court presentation that takes place usually in the first week of May. This year I was fortunate to be elected as the junior class representative with Christian Kaui to be on the royal court. We represented the island of Lana'i and wore orange. Unfortunately the State Championships for golf was the same day and even though I had qualified to play, I chose Ho'olaule'a instead because I felt like it was an honor to be picked by my class. Also, states was here this year in Waikoloa and I didn't really feel like playing there but if it was on another island I would have played. But I ended up going on wednesday the day after to watch the second day of states since it was a 2 day tournament and got to see all of my friends from other islands.
My dress was very nice. I thought I wasn't going to be able to pull off the orange but my tan helped me haha. My hair piece consisted of the Hawaiian Bird of paradise, money leaves, and Heleconia. It weighed literally around 2 pounds but it was worth it because it looked beautiful and I got a lot of compliments on it. My god grandmother who is Hawaiian did it for me. She also did Chynna and Shae's hair who were the 2 out of 3 ladies in waiting. They looked amazing also!
Personally, I think the student council advisor should have done elections 3 months in advance so that all of us would have an easier time getting all the dress together and find a seamstress. For me it wasn't a problem but by the time everyone got their acts together it was too late. We owe a lot of appreciation to Nathan Tabucbuc and Jasmine Kierkiewicz because without them, Ho'olaule'a would have been a disaster. In the end, everyone looked great and we all had a good time. The gym looked really good and although there were a few technical difficulties, we all managed to pull it together and get the show on the road. I wouldn't have asked for another court because they were all the best! Especially Christian, Nathan, Jasmine, Megan, Will, and Ashley.
I'm done being on courts. I was on the Homecoming and Ho'olaule'a Court my freshman and junior year so I feel like I'm complete :)
