Ho'olaule'a
On May 3, 2011 marked SJS's annual Ho'olaulea. Being a member of the Royal Court, representing the island of Moloka'i it was a awesome experience. Outside of being on the court I took on extra responsibilities. Along with the help of Jasmine Kierkiewicz, we choreographed the Royal Courts dance and we did all the major planning and putting together of the program to make it go smooth. The morning of Hoolaulea was very hectic. I was running around all over the place touching up on last minute details, making sure all the girls were getting hair, make-up and flowers done, helping teach a Filipino Cultural Workshop, and many more. Just as the Royal court was about to make their grand entrance we had a little issue with the girls dresses and a two girls missing. After the procession, the queens CD was no where to be found. Good thing her kumu on there for back up. After the presentation of the royal court, all student performances went smooth. i would like to thank the court for putting up with me all the times i yelled at them for their little mistakes of horsing around and talking. Also for actually putting in their all when it was their turn to shine. This year our Royal court was HUGE. It consisted of around twenty-seven students. Overall i would have to say the week of prep for Ho'olaulea was crazy, but the day of the event turned out to be okay. Hope everyone enjoyed.
